Fair for the price

The staff is super friendly and helpful. Definitely our go to hotel when wer're in Monterey.

The rooms are small compared to a chain hotel, and you hear your neighbors more than you may wish, but they are spotless and memorable. I interacted with several staff members over a four-day stay. They were all cheerful and helpful. Finally, the price is right, and the location is unbeatable (including access to a $8/day covered parking across the street.

Pet friendly. Clean but old carpet in hallways and rooms. Beds to soft for me. Fridge and microwave in room. Walking distance to restaurants and shops. Awesome and helpful staff. Room stayed a bit stuffy even with windows open but hotel provided a fan in the room.

In that I have very little positive feedback to offer, I will say nothing.

This hotel is an older historic hotel but not worth the money vs some of the other inns we could have chosen. We understood that there would not be AC and other modern amenities but we were not prepared for our key cards to stop working every single day or the rooms not being ready on arrival and having to ask the staff for ice every morning. When we arrived at 2:30 our rooms were not ready which we understood since it was before 3pm. We left our bags and went to find a coffee shop and came back an hour later to only find one of our rooms ready. We all had to hang out in a single warm room until the second room was cleaned. There are no ice machines on any floor so you need to ask the kitchen every day for ice. There is also no AC but they do provide fans and open windows if you are ok with the serenading sounds of squawking sea gulls and clanking bottles from the trash collectors. Our key cards for 319 stopped working EVERY SINGLE DAY of our trip. We did use the hot tub in the basement one time - that key card also didn’t work and we had to go back up to have it reprogrammed. It was weird to be in a closed off concrete room with just a hot tub but it was fine. The hotel is dated (again historic) but really needs upgrades and friendlier staff or guests will not continue to stay. We will not be back.

If you're uptight or require everything to be perfect then this property isn't for you. This is an old property & it shows & works that way, you'll likely be shlepping your luggage up stairs like us whether you use the elevator or not. It's convenient relative to dining & coffee options but easily the loudest place we've ever stayed, the street noise and gulls will drive you nuts if you don't have ear plugs. The carpet & entry were dingy with litter on the floor, it hadn't been picked up by the time we left two days later, that should tell you what you need to know to make a decision. Coffee pot was empty at 8:00 in the morning, luckily there is a coffee shop right outside. If this property requires return business to stay in operation, the owner needs to read this.

this place was so nice i love it
-
The hotel is hard to find, the room was so hot and stuffy: the staff was not welcoming
-
The room was ok, but the carpets need some help along with the bathrooms.
-
Love these nostalgic properties! So many nooks and crannies to sit and relax are scattered throughout the property. Almost as if you would expect Garbo or Bogart to step out of the shadows. The hotel is also a stop on the Monterey ghost tour!

It was dirty old, and there was no water provided carpet dirty

Es antiguo sin mantenimiento

Very good
-
Needs a good cleaning. Need 2 screens in room 222. Need windows and screens cleaned Fun location, lots nearby

This is an old classic hotel and as such has its charm and a fantastic location. However, it could need some freshening up. The floor carpets are unpleasant looking and there is no AC. Monterey weather allows for keeping windows open, the local seagulls do not. I did appreciate them allowing dogs though.
