Portola Hotel & Spa at Monterey Bay

Good location

Check-in was a little difficult as they couldn’t find the 4 rooms I reserved under my name until it was mentioned that it was booked through Expedia. Also, one of the rooms was not ready until 8 pm even though Expedia said that check in is at 4 pm. The rep mistakenly said that check-in period is from 4 pm - 6 pm. How can it be so late? My daughter and her husband had to get ready to attend a wedding and fortunately, we had another room available for them to use. The hotel graciously comped us for the parking. Other than that, the hotel was excellent and would stay there again.

There was a planned power outage that I was not aware of; I called down and was told it would only last 15 minutes. The power was out for more than 2 hours and it was inconvenient. When I tried to call down to follow up, the front desk phone line was disconnected and they weren't taking calls. Being in the dark with no power made my stay much more difficult as I have a baby. I was grateful I was able to obtain a little lantern after walking to the front desk, but it would have been easier if they would have been taking phone calls.

I like this hotel. Great location, friendly and helpful staff. As a guest, it is important that I feel welcomed. They provided that. And, I like the fact that they had a working area by the elevator at the lobby level with two large tables with outlets. My family will stay here again. Great value. Thank you to the hotel staff.

Great location, comfortable, clean room- easy parking. Smell of methane gas (sewer) in Lobby for a few days.

The hotel is in a prime location. All staff were polite and very helpful. I really enjoyed my stay.

Very conveniently located hotel, a couple minutes walk to the wharf, and close to a lot of restaurants. Rooms are decently sized, amenities are fairly modern. The hotel is pretty big, and the room was pretty far away from the elevator, and there seems to only be 1 set of elevators. Still, would recommend for a convenient stay in Monterey.

Exceptional

It was ok, but nothing great. We checked in late at night, and the employee didn’t give us good directions to the room, we were walking outside lost, we went back to reception and another employee did the same thing. Room was ok, but I would never go back there

I wouldn't come back to this hotel. It's very loud in the hallways with kids and the worse thing is the seagulls screaming all night. It's unbearable. I pre-paid months in advance for 7 night with my mom. We had a balcony room. It was so loud and I was woken up often. NEVER again.

Lovely hotel which is well positioned. The rooms were clean and big enough for a family. Staff were also very helpful when we needed them

Great staff, good restaurant. No designated pet area. Bed pillows in poor condition. No counter in bathroom.

Location was convenient. Rooms were clean and staff was unfailingly pleasant. But very little space to hang or store clothing which is inconvenient if you want to unpack. One small section of the closet had four or five shelves for shoes, but not much else. None of the furniture (night stand, tables or counter tops) had drawers or doors that opened. A little odd . . .
