Carpenter Street Hotel

The staff was nice at check in. The first room they gave me smelled horrible. They did move me to a different room which was better, but they didn’t seem happy about it. At checkout, they never asked how things were. I left before the free breakfast because the ambiance and smell made me lose my appetite.

The front desk personnel were very sweet and helpful. The breakfast was great. Our bathtub drain in room 202 was super slow...like pretty much it didn't drain. Aside from that the room was perfect.

The place is old and the room smelled terrible. The whole building had a weird smell too it actually. I had read they had a free shuttle, that was untrue. The toilet barely flushed and there was low water pressure. The place is old, dated and I am not sure how it slipped by me when I booked it. I would never stay at this place had I seen it first.

Great stay! We were in town for concerts at the state fair. It was close and the free breakfast was nice. However, there is no shuttle as stated on this site. The hotel said there hasn't been one there for the years, so just beware of that!

All of the carpet in our room was wet and there was a distinct smell of the dampness. When we asked to switch rooms, we were told they were sold out. The woman at the front desk came up to check the room but offered no remedy and said she would talk to her manager but we never heard back. Luckily our stay was only one night and we just powered through.

The location to the Illinois State Fairgrounds was ideal. Check in was quick & efficient. Ice machine and vending machine on our floor. Nothing

Everything was ok. Nothing fancy. Cheap pillows and towels.

Staff was nice. Hotel has aged and was dirtier than I last remember. Stuff on floors. AC and toliet in room both leaked. Floor soaked from AC. It worked and stayed cold. Hallway floors could use a vacuum along the edges. Exterior needed a lawn mower.

Not located in a great neighborhood, outdoors weeds were everywhere. Inside was outdated and not super welcoming. Would not stay there again.

Very good breakfast. Clean, comfortable room. Great location for visiting the Lincoln presidential museum and historic sites... Friendly staff.

I like the location of the hotel. I have stayed here before and really like the location. The internet and tv did not work in our room. When I asked about it I was told that there was a worldwide outage. Fun family members didn't mention that when I talked to them. And it happened both nights of our stay. I was having a foot issue and I was very tired and didn't want to deal with it so I didn't follow up with the problem at the moment. Just didn't like being lied to twice by the same person at the desk over the same issue.

Location Towels were horrible! Very dated with stains in carpet.
