About Macdonald Leeming House

A Regency house overlooking Ullswater, the Macdonald Leeming House has an award-winning restaurant and views of the Cumbrian Fells. It is a 15-minute drive from the M6 motorway. The bedrooms with attached bathroom are decorated in a traditional style and all have flat-screen TVs and seating areas. Some rooms have balconies with lake views. The Regency Restaurant serves modern British cuisine. The conservatory and terrace offer a more relaxed setting for informal lunches and dinners. The hotel has 22 acres of grounds and offers croquet on the lawn and private fishing on the river. Indoors, there is a drawing room, library and sitting room with log fires in the winter. Leeming House features a private helipad. Penrith is 7.5 miles away and Aira Force, the waterfall Wordsworth wrote about, is 3 miles away.

An overnight visit. Exceptionally helpful staff. Stunning property and grounds. Breathtaking scenery. Dinner was amazing; breakfast substantial and delicious. The room had patio doors leading directly to the grounds - very handy when you have a dog with you. Very dog friendly btw. A little too warm in the night. Nice to have the patio doors but couldn't really leave them open.

Excellent location. Delicious food and good service. The rooms are a little old fashioned but comfortable.

The property is nice and quaint but furnishing were a tad old

The food was very good. The cost of over £15 for a pudding was too much. The general maintenance inside was very poor.

The location and view Room hot , and noisy pipe work!

You won't find a better location in the lake district, with not only a splendid view over Ullswater right from the hotel itself, but also fine walks nearby. The rooms are more luxurious than the exterior might suggest. They are extremely comfortable and beautifully appointed. The public areas of the hotel are filled with character and haven't been overly restored to please spoiled travelers. Overall, a place to return to happily. I didn't try the main restaurant, because the prices were high. Instead, I ate in the bar and was generally quite satisfied with the pub menu, though the steak sandwich one day was almost inedible.

The staff, all of them couldn’t have been more welcoming. The food was delicious No hairdryer in my room and I face cloth

Friendly staff and beautiful gardens . Clean and tidy - but I feel it is in need of modernisation . Music in dining room at breakfast - old fashioned / jazz

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is stunning. The hotel is wonderful. It would be useful for the rooms to have a thermostat or a way to turn the radiator down, as it was very warm.

Our stay was truly a beautiful experience. All the staff made us feel welcome and were happy to help. The grounds are phenomenal and the food was incredible. That we couldn’t stay longer! We will absolutely be returning.

Beautiful building and location on Ullswater. Good parking too. Bar staff seemed to have very little idea of service and types of drinks. Breakfast should start at 0730 and quality of meal and presentation mediocre. No room fridge. WiFi really tricky to get into and keeps dropping out. Dirty cleaning towel left in my wash basin by housekeeping. Credit card machines not working properly - particularly AmEx. Very expensive for the offering which was very much 3 star. No real improvements in two years since we last stayed. It needs to be taken in hand! It is in a great location and has good bricks and mortar so could be a great hotel if there was investment in staff and their training.

Not much As I was at the hotel for my sons wedding I wasn't happy about getting changed after the ceremony in the car park.

  • Engine customer Apr 2025

Location, Gardens and building decor was beautiful. The shower was cold from first thing in the morning till we checked out. Stall although were very pleasant, could perhaps go through some training updates and communicate more with one another. The bath robes and bed clothes could do with a regular check up. We had a ripped pillow case and damaged belt loops on the bathrobes.

Breakfast was great. No problem with that at all and staff at breakfast were lovely The vegetable soup for lunch was like dishwater and very peppery. I couldn't eat it and still was charged. One coffee cup in bedroom had loads of creepy crawlies in it. I immediately complained. I got no apology , lady manager seemed to think replacing cup made it all right. and hotel has not contacted me since my email to them since returning home. Not a good experience and we would never go back

This was a charming hotel set in a stunning location. Our stay was quiet and relaxing. The staff were friendly and very efficient. The food was delicious- we had breakfast and evening meals. There was anything that we didn’t like.

Beautiful setting. Stunning location. Staff were very friendly and attentive. The room was huge, as was the bed, and we had a view of the lake, which was simply wonderful.
