The next morning we decided to sleep in, but the maid knocked on our door at 8:45 am. The interesting thing about it was in the bathroom. It said that if you wanted your room clean during your day, you needed to call the front desk and request it. When we finally got out of the room about an hour later I spoke to the maid and asked her if they could clean the room, especially the bathroom and provide us with clean towels. I also ran into the head maid a bit later and asked her the same thing. The room was never touched. When we returned to the hotel it was after 4 pm again and the front desk said that they were unable to do anything except give us towels. They also said that they would let the manager know about all our issues. The manager still didn’t reach out. Overall the hotel was nice, the restaurant in the hotel was pretty good, and the rest of the room seemed clean. The one thing I expect when I stay at a hotel is that the room is clean and they failed at that on multiple days. It was disappointing.

I stuck it out two nights, but I left a day early because I couldn't take it anymore. If I hadn't prepaid with a nonrefundable rate, I would have switched hotels right away. It's too bad, because the location is great. There's also an onsite restaurant and bar and a decent gym. It has the potential to be a terrific hotel. But it desperately needs to be updated and have the moisture issue fixed.

I moved my niece into college there so the location was great, however this hotel is need of some major cleaning and updates. My shower had mildew and room rug was stained badly. Upon entering the hotel from side door from parking garage the entire walk to the lobby it just smelled so bad. Worth noting: the garage parking has a charge and it’s down the alley behind the hotel. Once parked there is a side door that I found stays unlocked pretty late at least past 9PM. It took quite a while for my room to cool down, upon entering the thermostat was set at 85 for an August day. Yikes! I won’t be staying here again unfortunately.

I love that it’s a central location in town, also convenient parking and in walking distance to college and some really good antique stores. Also enjoyed breakfast, love that it also has a restaurant!! Would definitely stay again!!

This hotel has a latent New Orleans vibe, especially with the restaurant's bar and restaurant extensions under an awning on Hanover Street. The brick facade completes its Southern appearance. Downtown Carlisle is filled with historic sites and cozy little shops (bookstores abound in a college town), and the campus of Dickinson College is a ten-minute walk away. Municipal parking, partially subsidized by the hotel, is only $5.50 per 24-hour period. We had a fourth-floor suite, suggested at the desk, that was totally quiet. The sofa was welcome as a staging area, and the bed was luxurious and an Emperor, rather than a King, size given its roominess and plush bedding. The 1794 Restaurant pulled off the theme elegantly, and the staff was repeatedly challenged by this historian about their knowledge of the Whiskey Rebellion, although whiskies are a house specialty and we are much lighter drinkers. The restaurant alone will get us back to Comfort Suites Downtown next time we're in the area. I had Pennsylvania Trout Friday night while my wife had two generous Chesapeake Bay crab cakes. On Saturday, we both had Bison burgers, a little oilier and tasting a tad like wild game. They were a savory experience, too. Waitstaff refills iced tea glasses without being called for, and service is always with a smile. A buffet breakfast is also included in the 1794, although it is much closer to standard motel fare than the restaurant's exotic and scrumptious lunch and dinner fare. All in all, with a very attractive overnight price point, this was one of the best hotel bargains we've ever gotten in a LONG travel career around the world. Every aspect of the hotel was positive; most were well beyond that. Consider visiting this gem in a town with plenty to see and do. Nothing, although my hope that the 1794 would be directly involved in breakfast, was dashed. Just one overworked waitperson and lots of thawed pastries and entrees. If the hotel did get the restaurant involved in breakfast preparation, this hotel would soar off the charts in my diary.
