Had high hopes. Took my wife here for our anniversary. The grounds were very well maintained. Being able to walk around, and see the progress that has been made in restoring this place was amazing. The staff were also very friendly. Unfortunately our room wasn't worth the amount paid. The bathroom sink didn't drain right, the walls of our shower had soap still dripping off from previous guests. I understand it's an older building and you guys really did a great job but even the wall against the window could of used a coat of paint. Enjoyed the experience but for the amount paid just to me wasn't worth it.

    Beautiful place, staff great

Lots of direction signs to get here. Good dining recommendations, several in walking distance. Little annoyances: Really long hallways to rooms. The room light switch is on the hinge side of the really hard to open door. No desk light. Just enough room to turn around. No bathroom fan.

Property was spectacular. Staff friendly. Restaurant was a huge disappointment! We went for breakfast and eventually left without ordering. One staff person was on duty. 15 people waiting. Guy beside me said food was not good. He gave it back.

The room was clean. But for two people there were only 3 coffee pods in the room and only one bottle of water!

Everything was unique about it. The stuff from the restaurant and bar lounge were amazing. The food was just perfect. Breakfast was fantastic. I just wish that the hotel would have at least a mini fridge in the room. Otherwise, a real pleasant and amazing property. Can’t wait to go back again with my family.

From the carefully angled photographs, I thought it was located in a green area where I could enjoy a garden, and it seemed to be some sort of manor house. Instead, it is a former asylum with parts of the campus derelict and empty (broken windows, etc..) and other parts under renovation, with construction barriers and equipment. Reminded me of horror movie settings. I decided not to stay after seeing the building and surroundings, and the front desk clerk was kind enough to let me cancel my reservation with no fee. They are making good attempts to make the interior inviting, but it felt too much like a former institution, even with the decorating attempts.

The hotel is a very nice place to stay. It's beautiful a quite grand! Understand though, there will be construction going on during the day as the entire property is being renovated. I would assume this would take years.

The property was delightful. The staff was excellent, especially Denny at the Reception Desk. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting Jim, the General Manager, and Mark, the Food and Beverage Manager. Great staff and, in my opinion, definitely a historic, beautiful facility with unlimited potential!

We enjoyed the history of the hotel as a former asylum. There was so much history to explore on the grounds and in the building. Our original stay was for 2 nights but we extended our stay by an extra night to take advantage of the hard hat tour of the rest of the asylum buildings. The building architecture is amazing. We are enjoying our stay.
