Amarillo is about halfway between my home in Oklahoma and my daughter and her fiancé in Albuquerque, so a good meeting place to get together for a weekend. We look for a fun hotel with a nice pool and Cactus Cove seemed to fit the bill for this get-together, however, what is not made apparent is that this is very much a family hotel/resort. There are children EVERYWHERE. When we headed to the pool area, there were more than 20 children there, many without parents, babies in the pool without swim diapers and balls of all sorts being thrown over the heads of the swimmers. We had rooms on the first floor, just outside the breakfast area and to our chagrin, learned that it is routine for a giant dinosaur named Carl to awaken sleepers at 9:00 in the morning yelling into a megaphone and inciting children to scream. Saturday night someone’s children were roaming the halls at 2:00AM, knocking on random doors just for the fun of disturbing guests. Truly an issue of bad parenting, but the hotel should have a curfew, security guards or something to prevent such disruption. There should also be an option to book as an adult party, which we all were, and be assigned to rooms in a quieter part of the hotel. I stayed in this building a couple years ago when renovations were just beginning and nice progress has been made but 1 elevator is still not working and some of the work is very sloppy, leaving gaps or small holes around plumbing, light fixtures, etc.

Bit of a bizarre experience, with a dinosaur appearing at breakfast time. Definitely a family oriented hotel. Overall, it was a great place to stay!

The staff was nice, friendly and helpful. The inside area of the hotel was very unique. It would be great for families with kids with games, arcade, miniature golf, and indoor playground. It had a great indoor pool area as well. And they have a dinosaur that greets guests at breakfast time, fun for people of all ages. The lady in charge of continental breakfast, I think her name was Dina was very friendly and attentive. We would love to go back and stay there again if we’re driving through the area.

My room felt clean and the shower worked well. AC worked well too. All in all, a decent place at a good price.

The hotel and the Western Horseman club were amazing. We met some family for a little visit, wish we would have had more time at the hotel. We will definitely be back!
